IJKA trip to Japan

Here's a cool report that students might enjoy reading from the recent IJKA trip to Japan with Shihan Kato written by Sensei Steve Cameron of IJKA Worcestershire. It's quite long but has lots of cool information about what would surely be a dream come true for the vast majority of Karateka around the world.

about us

Tuam Karate Club is currently accepting new students. If you want to learn to defend yourself, get fit, improve your confidence and have fun - give it a try! The club was founded in 1974 and is the oldest Karate club in the West of Ireland; we currently have four black belts training at the club and a wide variety of mixed grades. Unlike many Karate clubs, we are run on a non-profit basis as a labour of love and we are dedicated to teaching only top quality Karate.

We hold a yearly autumn course with IJKA world chief instructor Sadashige Kato Sensei, 9th Dan - one of the world's most respected Karate Masters - as well as regular classes with high ranking Irish instructors. Members frequently attend training camps across the country and indeed, the whole world. Our primary focus is traditional Japanese Karate for self defence, but many students also attend national competitions annually. We accept adults and students aged eight years and above. People of any fitness level are more than welcome to give it a try. Class costs 5 euro and all classes are pay as you go. Your first class is free. As we have a large, very well equipped hall and several black belts to help supervise at all times, there is no need to pre-book for classes. 9th December -- Course and grading with Sensei Brian Toomey, 6th Dan. Scouthall, Tuam.
17th December -- Senior grade kata class with Demot O' Keefe, 5th dan, in Castlebar Shotokan Karate Club.
28th/29th January 2012 -- Koryu Uchinadi kata and bo staff course with Sensei Jim Sindt, 4th Dan, GMIT Galway.
4th/5th February -- Course with Sensei André Bertel, IJKA New Zealand 6th Dan and uchideshi of Shihan Asai, 10th dan, in Ahrensburg, Germany.
9/10/11th March -- Spring seminar with Shihan Kato, 9th Dan, IJKA Ireland Hombu Dojo, Fermoy, Co. Cork.
